On Saturday 13th June 2015, my friend - Tony Holmes - passed away following a superhuman fight against cancer. He was at home with the people he loved the most. It was peaceful.
There is so much in that paragraph (& it still makes me cry to write & read!) - but the crucial parts were - he was at home with his loved ones and his passing was peaceful. This happened because of the care and support given to him and of equal importance - to Sue, both during and immediately after.
The In home hospice support meant Tony could be at home, where he wanted to be - in a safe and familiar environment. Equally importantly - the in home visits provided Sue with a little respite from caring for Tony 24hrs a day - which meant she had some much needed breathing space which allowed her a little self care in a hugely stressful situation - be it a bath or a run on the treadmill.
Without Rennie Grove, those final weeks would have been very different for two of the most important people in my life - and for that I am eternally grateful.
So, to honour my brave friends & their monumental fight I'm trying to raise money by simply shaving my head... no biggie compared to their journey... but hopefully drastic enough to be able to help the people who supported them and ensure Rennie Grove can continue to support others at what is unarguably their darkest time.
Truly a silver lining in a sky of very dark clouds.
